Human Repair and Apology Checklist

Use with Why Repair and Apology Stay Human.

Do not use this checklist to pressure contact, reconciliation, forgiveness, or secrecy. If contact is unsafe, unwelcome, prohibited, or part of an HR, legal, safeguarding, stalking, abuse, or victim-support process, follow that qualified process instead of sending an apology.

Draft-check prompt

Here is a draft apology I've written: [paste draft]. Check it against
these six elements: expression of regret, explanation, acknowledgment
of responsibility, declaration of intent to change, offer of repair,
and request for forgiveness. Tell me which are present and which are
missing. Do not rewrite my apology for me or add sentiment I did not
express.

What this cannot do

AI can help you find clearer words for an apology you already mean. It cannot feel the regret, deliver the message, negotiate the repair, or do the ongoing behavior change that makes an apology mean anything over time.
