Bounded AI editing pass card
Use with AI as your personal editor: three bounded editing passes.
Before the first pass
- The excerpt is fictional, public, deliberately non-sensitive or approved for the exact tool and account.
- Personal data, client information, unpublished results and another person’s confidential words remain out of the prompt.
- I have saved the original and will review a visible diff.
Pass 1: clarity
Do not rewrite the passage. Quote only lines that may be ambiguous,
do more than one job, or appear out of order. For each line, explain
the issue and ask before proposing replacement wording.
Pass 2: tone
The intended audience is [role]. The intended tone is [plain description].
Quote lines that conflict with that tone and offer at most two alternatives.
Do not change facts, structure, names, numbers, quotations or commitments.
Pass 3: grammar
List only typos, grammatical errors, awkward constructions and accidental
repetition. Quote the original and explain each proposed change. Do not
silently rewrite the passage.
Human acceptance
- I understand every accepted change.
- Facts, names, numbers, quotations, links and commitments still match the source.
- The final wording still sounds like the responsible author.
- The response is treated as suggestions, not proof of correctness or reader intent.
