First Two Weeks Triage Sheet

A sheet for sorting the tasks after a redundancy or involuntary work transition into the right lane. Companion to After redundancy or mid-life disruption: use AI for administration, not identity.

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, stop and contact your local emergency services now, or see the IASP suicidal crisis support page. This sheet is not for a crisis; it is for everyday triage.

Lane 1: Urgent admin

Tasks with real deadlines. Verify every deadline and entitlement against an official source before acting on it.

TaskDeadline (verify!)Official source to confirm withDone?
Register with employment/benefits agency[ ]
Confirm health insurance continuity[ ]
Request final pay / leave payout in writing[ ]
Request reference and tax documents[ ]

Lane 2: People (support, not admin)

Tell people who can actually support you — before you need them, not after you are overwhelmed.

Lane 3: Finances to verify

Do not treat any AI-generated number as fact. List what needs checking and with whom.

ItemWho/what confirms itChecked?
Severance or notice-period pay[ ]
Unemployment/benefit eligibility and amount[ ]
Health insurance gap or continuation cost[ ]
Tax implications of final pay[ ]

Lane 4: Recovery

Not optional — this lane protects your capacity to do the other three well.

Lane 5: Exploration (when capacity and urgent deadlines allow)

Reminder

AI can help you organize this sheet, draft messages, and prepare questions for an adviser. It cannot confirm your legal entitlements, your tax position, or tell you what to do with your career — those need an official source, a qualified professional, or a person who knows you.
