Home Photo Privacy Checklist

Use with Home Photos and Floorplans: Privacy Before You Upload.

What this is not

• Not DIY repair instructions
• Not a surveillance or security-system design guide
• Not permission to upload clear kids’ rooms, keypads, or address docs to consumer AI
• Not a substitute for appropriately qualified inspection or any licensing requirement that applies where life-safety judgment is required

Prefer offline / text first

• I tried a text brief (sizes, constraints, must-not-touch) before any upload
• I can state the ask without showing the whole house

If I still upload an image

• Cropped to the stuck detail only
• Faces blurred
• Mail / IDs / screens / keypads covered
• Valuables and open safes out of frame
• Kids’ rooms not shown (or heavily cropped with no identifying cues)
• Metadata / location stripped locally with a suitable tool
• Exported a local copy after stripping metadata and inspected that actual copy before upload; a setting or preview alone is not confirmation
• Address numbers and yard signs not visible
• Provider training, retention, deletion, and human-review settings checked separately; those controls do not replace cropping and data minimization

Never upload to consumer AI

• Full unmarked floorplan with street address
• Security panel close-ups with codes visible
• Utility / insurance docs with account numbers
• Suspected asbestos sampling photos as a substitute for accredited inspection

After the chat

• I will not forward raw interiors into public group chats
• Contractor sharing uses the controlled portal or channel named in the contract, with access limited to the intended recipient; an NDA or professional licence does not secure the channel
