# Home Contractor Boundary Card

Use with [AI Is Not Your Contractor](/articles/ai-is-not-your-contractor).

## What this is not

- Not DIY instructions for electrical, gas, structural, roof-load, or asbestos work
- Not a permit determination or code conclusion
- Not a contractor bid or market-rate estimate
- Not permission to skip licensed professionals on life-safety trades

## Before every home-project prompt

1. Constraints I already chose (rooms, budget band, must-not-touch):
   ________________________________________________
2. Model role today (circle one): question pack / quote grid / summarize my docs / risk list / other: ________
3. I will keep or discard every suggestion myself: [ ]
4. Life-safety trades involved? If yes, stop DIY prompts and hire licensed: [ ]

## Dependency check (weekly)

- [ ] I wrote constraints before prompting
- [ ] I refused at least one "build this for me" urge on life-safety work
- [ ] I did not treat an AI materials list as purchase-ready without datasheets
- [ ] I did not accept an AI permit yes/no

## Privacy stop

- [ ] No raw floorplans uploaded without redaction
- [ ] No kids' rooms / valuables / security panels in clear photos
- [ ] No address-linked utility or insurance docs pasted raw

## Escalate to licensed / AHJ when

- Electrical, gas, structural, roof-load, or suspected asbestos
- Permit or code applicability is unclear
- Quotes disagree wildly on scope or safety assumptions
